Hi All! Got a request from a guy I met last weekend to look at a radio/phonograph console he has at home. Said he bought it about a dozen years ago for less than $100.00. Hasn't done anything with it, just has it on display. He finally sent me the pix of it today. Don't have a model number yet, but maybe someone recognizes it. It's a Freed-Eisemann, AM/FM. Interesting part about the FM is the scale, it reads from 40-50 Megacycles. The AM and FM scales are separate, on opposite sides of center, and are mounted vertically, AM on the left and FM on the right. There is a tuning eye in the center. The top opens to reveal the phono, which is very clean, and the front has two doors that open to reveal the radio and speaker grill. I couldn't figure out how to post the pictures he sent me, so maybe my description is sufficient. I hope so.

From 1940 to 1945, the span of the FM band was officially 42 - 50mHz. This was changed in 1945 to the 88 - 108 mHz spectrum. From the late thirties until 1945, there were a few FM stations broadcasting from 42 - 50mHz. W1XOJ was granted the first FCC FM permit in 1937.

This suggests that the set in question was pre-1945.

Look up JJ's Radio Logs. They have newspaper listings of major city radio programs guides. There are a few pre-war TV broadcasts as well as some FM.
