I picked up a red Nier-Feuer Hand Super Baby #175 at
a garage sale.
Problem is: The "filler lid" (cap) is missing.
Anybody got one?
Who is our Lantern Collector?

Thanks, Michael

I have a lantern that I found was from before 1900. Got it at a garage sale for five dollars. It has square tubing, and is a hot blast type (yours is cold blast) so the lamp collectors guild (like the ARF of the lamp world) said that it was pre-1898. Works like a champ...
I don't know about your filler cap. Be sure to use kerosene and not gasoline or something like that. One of my friend's cousins gave him a kero lamp full of gas, and not knowing it, he lit it, and BOOM! Thank god he didn't put too much gas in.

In jolly old Englande (where I is from), a 'lantern' is an electric light source used in theatre.

<Shakespeare>
"This lanthorn doth the horned moon resent"

Hello Radionut,

Not a collector, but I've got a very similar old Railroad lantern over in Mom's garage which has both red & clear interchangeable globes. It is painted a metallic blue...

If it would help, I could check to see if it is like yours and get a pic & measurements of cap...

Thank you very much, John! But unless it's around the block, please don't make a special trip.
As stated, this is a W.German Nier-Feuerhand (Fire hand logo) Super Baby Model 175.
I'm having a heck of a time finding a replacement filler cap.

Thanks, Michael

Michael,

Stopped by and looked at lantern on way home from work tonight. Does look similar to yours, but was made by Dietz of Dietz, NY U.S.A and is called the "Little Wizard"... They sure picked some unusual names for these !

Best wishes on finding your cap...

The Dietz little wizards were used a lot on road baracades that is why the red lens on some.
A lot of R R lanterns were made by Adlake., some by dietz and there was one other brand.
